I am Roberta Debernardi

past with pictorial restoration and textile design, obsessively passionate about using my hands (strictly for peaceful purposes), after creating fabric flowers for years, I stumbled (almost by accident) upon crepe paper, a material I had never considered until then, and a world opened up to me. I watched tutorials, read what I could find on the subject, made an unspecified series of tests to learn the various techniques, and began to learn about the paper and this is where the fun part began.

I stopped looking at tutorials and started looking at flowers, discovered their complexity, I use them as inspiration, I don't copy them, I assemble pistils and corollas following my own aesthetic of shapes and colors, a fantastic botany, made of paper.

I use all weights of crepe paper from Cartotecnica Rossi, after various experiments I found the ideal paper for the pistils and the perfect one for the petals, depending on the effect I want to achieve, I color it with markers, dry crayons, and alcohol ink, to give depth to the flower, I use only vinyl glue and as a structure the florist wire, the thin one, which allows me to curve the stem and the corolla and make them as natural as possible, I prefer small flowers and twigs that I make up from flowers I see around and botanical prints.

I chose the name Hana, which means flower in Japanese given my deep love for Japanese aesthetics and culture, of which flowers are a very important part, I added the name of my city Trieste, where I live and work to give it an exotic twist.

trascorsi con il restauro pittorico e il design tessile, ossessivamente appassionata nell’usare le mani (rigorosamente a fini pacifici), dopo aver per anni creato fiori in tessuto, sono incappata (quasi per caso) nella carta crespa, materiale che fino a quel momento non avevo mai preso in considerazione e mi si è aperto un mondo. Ho guardato tutorial, letto quello che trovavo sull’argomento, fatta una serie imprecisata di prove per imparare le varie tecniche e ho iniziato a conoscere la carta e qui è iniziata la parte divertente.

Ho smesso di guardare tutorial e ho cominciato a guardare i fiori, ho scoperto la loro complessità, li uso come ispirazione, non li copio, assemblo pistilli e corolle seguendo una mia estetica di forme e colori, una botanica fantastica, fatta di carta.

Uso tutte le grammature della carta crespa di Cartotecnica Rossi, dopo vari esperimenti ho trovato la carta ideale per i pistilli e quella perfetta per i petali, a seconda dell’effetto che voglio ottenere, la coloro con pennarelli, i pastelli secchi e inchiostro all’alcool, per dare profondità al fiore, uso esclusivamente colla vinilica e come struttura il filo di ferro da fioristi, quello sottile, che mi permette di curvare lo stelo e la corolla e renderli il più naturali possibile, prediligo i fiori piccoli e i rametti che mi invento prendendo spunto da fiori che vedo in giro e da stampe botaniche.

Ho scelto il nome Hana che in giapponese significa fiore visto il mio profondo amore per l’estetica e la cultura giapponese, di cui i fiori sono una parte molto importante, ho aggiunto il nome della mia città Trieste, dove vivo e lavoro per dare una botta di esotico al tutto.
