I am a licensed architect, author, and botanical sculptor who works exclusively with crepe paper in my art practice. My sculptures depict the appearance of different plants, mostly the heads of flowers, to some degree of accuracy in paper, often combining realism with preternaturally large, sometimes metastasized forms. Through my works in paper I study scale, texture (petals sometimes reading like feathers, or fur) and color. Each piece can take between two to four months of around the clock work to complete. I work with the rhythms and patterns found in nature, as well as the wonderful gestures formed by missteps and irregularities in nature like decay, rot, wilt, dormancy, death, and genetic and viral mutations like phyllody, petalody and fasciation. I like to bring the smallest things we take for granted or that might go unnoticed, like the tiniest florets of a flower, right to the viewer’s face, when one may realize they never knew them at all.

I am represented by Eleanor Harwood Gallery in San Francisco, and have exhibited her work across the United States. I am the author of The Fine Art of Paper Flowers which was released in english on Ten Speed Press in August 2017, and subsequently in Korean and Italian language. I received the Pirkle Jones Fund Visual Artist Support Program Grant in 2021 which I am using to support my next solo show of large scale work, "American Grown", opening in September 2023 at Eleanor Harwood Gallery.

Sono un'architetta, autrice e scultrice botanica che lavora esclusivamente con la carta crespa. Le mie sculture raffigurano l'aspetto di diverse piante, per lo più teste di fiori, con un certo grado di accuratezza nella carta, spesso combinando il realismo con forme preternaturalmente grandi, a volte metastatizzate. Attraverso le mie opere su carta studio la scala, la consistenza (i petali a volte sembrano piume o pellicce) e il colore. Ogni opera può richiedere dai due ai quattro mesi di lavoro continuo per essere completata. Lavoro con i ritmi e gli schemi che si trovano in natura, così come con i meravigliosi gesti formati da passi falsi e irregolarità della natura come il decadimento, la putrefazione, l'appassimento, la dormienza, la morte e le mutazioni genetiche e virali come la fillodia, la petalodia e la fasciatura. Mi piace portare le cose più piccole che diamo per scontate o che potrebbero passare inosservate, come le minuscole cimette di un fiore, dritto in faccia allo spettatore, che potrebbe rendersi conto di non averle mai conosciute.

Sono rappresentata dalla Eleanor Harwood Gallery di San Francisco e ho esposto le mie opere in tutti gli Stati Uniti. Sono l'autrice di The Fine Art of Paper Flowers che è stato pubblicato in inglese da Ten Speed Press nell'agosto 2017, e successivamente in lingua coreana e italiana.
